A WhatsApp QR code opens a chat with your business number the moment someone scans it: no need for them to save your number, find you in their contacts, or type anything. For businesses that field a lot of quick questions, that friction removal alone can meaningfully increase the number of people who actually reach out.

This generator builds a QR code for WhatsApp using your number and, if you'd like, a pre-filled message so the conversation starts with useful context already typed in.

How to create a WhatsApp QR Code

  1. Enter your WhatsApp number with the country code (e.g. +1 415 555 0100).
  2. Optionally add a pre-filled message, like "Hi, I'd like to ask about pricing."
  3. Style the code to match your signage or packaging.
  4. Download and place it wherever customers are likely to have a question: a menu, a receipt, a business card.

Customizing your QR code

A short, specific pre-filled message tends to outperform a blank chat. It lowers the effort of reaching out and tells you what the person is asking about before you even open the conversation. Keep it under a sentence; anything longer starts to feel like it's writing the customer's message for them.

This generator builds a standard wa.me link behind the scenes, and formatting your number correctly matters more than it seems. Enter only the country code and number, with no leading zero, spaces, dashes, or the "+" symbol; ClearQR strips most of that automatically, but a local leading zero left after the country code (a common habit when dialing domestically) is the single most common reason a WhatsApp QR code opens the wrong chat or fails to connect.

Where to use a WhatsApp QR Code

Testing your QR code

Before printing or publishing any QR code, test it yourself: scan it with your phone's camera from a normal viewing distance and confirm it opens the destination you intended. If you're printing it small or on a textured surface, test that exact size and material. A code that scans easily on a screen can struggle once it's shrunk onto a napkin or embossed on packaging.

Static QR codes, explained

ClearQR creates static QR codes. The information you enter (a URL, a phone number, contact details) is encoded directly into the QR code's pattern, so the generated code doesn't depend on ClearQR's servers to keep working.

The destination itself, though, still needs to remain available: if you delete the page a QR code points to, the code will still scan, but visitors will land on a dead link. If you need to change the destination later, create a new QR code; a static code can't be redirected after it's printed.

Privacy

QR information is processed locally in your browser and isn't uploaded to ClearQR's servers, including any logo image you upload. ClearQR does not currently use analytics or cookies.

Frequently asked questions

Does the person need WhatsApp installed to scan this?

They need WhatsApp installed to open the chat, same as any WhatsApp link. The QR code itself scans with any phone camera. It just opens WhatsApp (or the App/Play Store if it isn't installed yet).

Can I pre-fill a message?

Yes. Whatever you type in the message field appears already typed in the chat box when the customer opens it. They can edit it before sending.

Is this a WhatsApp Business feature?

No. It works with any WhatsApp number, personal or Business. It simply encodes a standard WhatsApp chat link into a QR code.

Will this code stop working if I lose my phone?

ClearQR creates static QR codes. The information you enter (a URL, a phone number, contact details) is encoded directly into the QR code's pattern, so the generated code doesn't depend on ClearQR's servers to keep working. The code points to your WhatsApp number, so it will keep working as long as that number stays active on WhatsApp.
