Keep sufficient whitespace around the QR code for reliable scanning.
Higher error correction can help when a QR code is partially obscured, but it produces a denser pattern.

A coupon QR code encodes your coupon code as plain text, formatted so it's easy to read the moment someone scans it: no app, no link, no typing the code by hand at checkout.
It works like ClearQR's Text generator, but structured specifically for a coupon: a code field, plus optional discount and expiry details, all pulled together into one clean block of text on scan.
How to create a Coupon / Discount QR Code
- Enter your coupon code.
- Optionally describe the discount, like "20% off" or "Buy one, get one free."
- Optionally add an expiry, like a date or "while supplies last."
- Style and download the code for packaging, receipts, or a flyer.
Customizing your QR code
Keep the coupon code itself short and easy to read back off a screen, in case a cashier needs to type it manually as a fallback. If the discount only applies online, consider mentioning that in the discount field so the expectation is clear before checkout.
Where to use a Coupon / Discount QR Code
- A printed flyer or postcard with a limited-time discount code.
- A receipt insert offering a coupon for the next visit.
- Product packaging with a first-order discount code.
- An event badge or program with a vendor discount code.
Testing your QR code
Before printing or publishing any QR code, test it yourself: scan it with your phone's camera from a normal viewing distance and confirm it opens the destination you intended. If you're printing it small or on a textured surface, test that exact size and material. A code that scans easily on a screen can struggle once it's shrunk onto a napkin or embossed on packaging.
Static QR codes, explained
ClearQR creates static QR codes. The information you enter (a URL, a phone number, contact details) is encoded directly into the QR code's pattern, so the generated code doesn't depend on ClearQR's servers to keep working.
The destination itself, though, still needs to remain available: if you delete the page a QR code points to, the code will still scan, but visitors will land on a dead link. If you need to change the destination later, create a new QR code; a static code can't be redirected after it's printed.
Privacy
QR information is processed locally in your browser and isn't uploaded to ClearQR's servers, including any logo image you upload. ClearQR does not currently use analytics or cookies.
Frequently asked questions
What does someone see when they scan this code?
Their phone displays the coupon code, and the discount and expiry details if you filled them in, as a plain block of text. There's no app or website required to view it.
Does this apply the discount automatically at checkout?
No. ClearQR only encodes the text; it doesn't connect to your point-of-sale or e-commerce system. The code still needs to be entered or recognized by whatever system is processing the discount, the same as any coupon code.
Can I update the expiry after printing?
No. The destination itself, though, still needs to remain available: if you delete the page a QR code points to, the code will still scan, but visitors will land on a dead link. If you need to change the destination later, create a new QR code; a static code can't be redirected after it's printed. For a coupon with a hard expiry, print only as many copies as you expect to use before that date.
Is my coupon information stored anywhere?
QR information is processed locally in your browser and isn't uploaded to ClearQR's servers, including any logo image you upload. ClearQR does not currently use analytics or cookies.
